Living In Missouri was an Official Selection at the 2001 Austin Film Festival, where it was one of only 11 films in competition and was also chosen to be the subject of a panel discussion with cast & crew.

The AFF is the first festival to focus on the contribution of the screenwriter, and 2001's honorees were Lawrence Kasdan (writer/director of Grand Canyon, Mumford, The Big Chill; writer of Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Empire Strikes Back) and Gary David Goldberg (Family Ties, Brooklyn Bridge).

The panel discussion drew a curious and appreciative crowd that was particularly interested in learning more about the process of making a low-budget feature film in the era of digital video.  Cast and crew members shared anecdotes about the shooting process, and gave provided a little bit of technical advice for any prospective filmmakers thinking about how to get started.

Official  Living In Missouri Trading Cards

The Q&A was followed by a blitz of publicity stunts-- travelling concession stands offering FREE SNOWCONES served by the "real" characters from the film, FREE DONUTS in the morning, and free Living In Missouri trading cards were given to everyone who attended the screenings.  The stunts caught people's attention, and sparked a range of reactions-- one Hollywood producer called the campaign "ingenious," while the security officers at the Omni hotel dubbed it "a public disturbance" and ordered the unauthorized snow cone stand removed from the lobby immediately.

OCTOBER 2001:  Following the two successful Austin screenings, the film played at two other festivals in the same month:  the Seattle Underground Film Festival, where it won BEST FEATURE FILM, and the Ashland Independent Film Festival, where it won the award for BEST ACTING ENSEMBLE.

FEBRUARY 2002:  Another festival triumph!  LIVING IN MISSOURI played at the San Francisco Indiefest, where it had two SF screenings followed by a showing in Berkeley.  Cast and crew were in attendance for the first screening, where an enthusiastic crowd hung around for a brief Q&A with the filmmakers.  As an added bonus, audience members were treated to FREE COTTON CANDY provided by "The Real Ryan & Todd"!

APRIL 2002:  At long last, LIVING IN MISSOURI made its Missouri Festival Premiere!  Boosted by a great review in the Kansas City Star, the screening had a tremendous turnout.  And for once, the film was shown in an actual movie theater instead of a make-shift "screening room" where most digital films get sent off to.

Cast & Crew participated in a lively Q&A session before the film, and were awarded a "Special Achievement Award" at the closing ceremonies.

JUNE 2002:  Return to the RagTag Cinemacafe, the World's Greatest Movie Theater!  Located in the heart of downtown Columbia, Missouri, the RagTag was home to our first "preview" screening of a rough cut back in December 2000.  Back then, dozens of intrepid moviegoers braved a blizzard for the chance to get a peek at the movie, risking life and limb and facing some of the worst icy road conditions in recent history.  This time around, the weather was perfect, so they were turning people away in droves.

Hopefully, LIVING IN MISSOURI will return to screen there again one day.  In the meantime, if you live in Missouri and love great movies, do yourself a favor and visit the RagTag!

JULY 2002:  After nearly getting into the L.A. Film Festival in 2000, we were happy to finally get a chance to show the film in Los Angeles.  Strangely, we did it as part of a New York festival:  The New York International Independent Film & Video Festival in Los Angeles (or NYIIF&VinLA for short).

WINNER:  "Independent Achievement Award (Feature)" Living In Missouri

AUGUST 2002:  Our East Coast premiere!  After playing up and down the West Coast and the Middle West, LIVING IN MISSOURI played in the Rhode Island International Film Festival to a small but appreciative audience.

SEPTEMBER 2002:  LIVING IN MISSOURI makes its New York premiere!  The 2nd Annual Guerilla Film & Video festival, now renamed the Indievision Film Festival, took place in the heart of Tribeca.

MISSOURI played in the Tribeca Grand Hotel's state-of-the-art screening room, and attendence was sparse to say the least.  Which was a shame, because the film has honestly never looked or sounded better...

NOVEMBER 2002:  At long last, our St. Louis premiere!  Boosted by a rave review by Post Dispatch film critic Joe Williams, the film received an excellent turnout as part of this presigious film series.

NOVEMBER 2002:  Our second New York screening, as part of the Struggling Artist Film Festival. Living In Missouri walked away with a record-setting 6 awards (out of 9 nominations!)
