"Best Renters," a dark comedy about a 20-something jerk who drives his wife into the arms of his best friend, will be filmed next month in Jefferson City and Olathe.

The director is Shaun Peterson, a Kansas City native and staffer with the Kansas City Film Projects Office.

"Best Renters" – the title refers to the video store where the main characters hang out – was written by Jefferson City native Connor Ratliff, who also will play the central character.

Also in the cast is area actor Holmes Osborne ("Affliction," "That Thing You Do!").

"Best Renters" will be shot on digital video and then transferred to film, according to Peterson, who has spent the last few years working in the film industry in Los Angeles.

"We’ve got a few investors, and those of us making the film have been pooling our resources," he said.  "All the actors save for one come from Missouri.  And we’ve been cashing in a lot of favors."
